Rev. Clayton Rascoe

Executive Director

Clayton was born in Newport News, VA, but was raised in Apex, NC where he attended the Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church in Cary, NC.  It was on ski trips with the Kirk’s youth group that Clayton first came to Massanetta Springs in the 1990’s.  Clayton holds a BS degree in Secondary History Education from Appalachian State University and a Masters of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary.  Clayton has been ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA) since December 2003. Clayton’s calls prior to Massanetta Springs were to serve the Presbytery of Coastal Carolina as their Associate for Outdoor Ministries (2003-2007), Presbyterian Mo-Ranch Assembly as Chaplain Program Director (2007-2013) and Calvin Presbyterian Church of Norfolk, VA as Designated Pastor (2014-2016).  Clayton has also been an active member of the Presbyterian Church Camp and Conference Association since 2003, and served on its board from 2013-2015.

Clayton is passionate about the ministries places like Massanetta provide saying, “I am convinced that what we offer is crucial for the times in which we live.  While advances in technology allow us to connect in amazing new ways, our call as Psalm 46 puts it, “to be still and know,” our God is as relevant now as when those words were first penned.  With the pace most of us keep today, perhaps those words are even more important now.”

Clayton is married to the Rev. Kate Rascoe.  Kate has served churches in North Carolina, Texas and Virginia. Kate and Clayton have two amazing daughters, Ruth (8) and Carolina (5).  Their mischievous plott hound, Scoot, rounds out the Rascoe family.  Golf, woodworking, the outdoors, running, board games, traveling and visiting friends and family are some of the other activities that fill Clayton’s life with joy.

Bill Vance

Director of Administration

Bill has been the Director of Administration for Massanetta Springs since 2005. Bill has a BS in Business Administration; Economics and an MA in Christian Education.

Rachael Burgess

Reservations Coordinator

Rachael was born and raised in Northern Virginia. After graduating from Warren County High School, Rachael attended Concord University in Athens, West Virginia. There she earned her BA in graphic design with emphasis in advertising in the spring of 2011. Shortly after, she became the group service coordinator for Hawks Nest State Park until moving back home in late 2013. Rachael enjoys spending her free time with her husband Dexter, daughter Natalee, and their two dogs.  Rachael joined our staff in September 2016.

Clarence Whitley

Manager of Facility Services

Clarence was born and rasied in Harrisonburg, VA where he graduated from Harrisonburg High School. He attended Hagerstown College in Maryland and was on the basketball team.  Clarence moved to Greensboro, NC where he worked at United Child Development Services as a maintenance and substitute bus driver.  After moving back home, he worked for R.R. Donnelly as a crew leader and with Paul Davis Restoration where he received his certificate in water damage restoration and floor cleaning.  Clarence joined the staff of Massanetta in August 2016.  He enjoys spending his free time in the outdoors, walking his dog, watching sports, traveling and working as a sound engineer for local bands.

David Crull

Manager of Dining Services

David has been the Dining Services Manager since 1995. Prior to that he was a manager for the Sodexo Corporation at Sandy Springs Friends School in Maryland and Eastern Mennonite University. David graduated from Eastern Mennonite University with a BA in History Education and is also a licensed Realtor in Virginia. He enjoys reading, traveling, and cruising in his 1972 Ford LTD. David, his wife, Lynette, and daughter, Denae, reside in Harrisonburg, VA.

Nola Avey

Administrative Assistant for Development and Stewardship

Nola joined our staff in October 2014. She is a graduate of Dominion Business School as an Administrative Assistant and Computer Operations Specialist. Nola is a gifted person with 19 years as Administrative Assistant at the Harrisonburg First Church of the Brethren.  She resides in Weyers Cave having moved to the area from West Virginia, allowing her to be closer to her two sons and her grandchildren.  She enjoys spending time with her family, quilting, and reading.

Shirley McCoy

Manager of Housekeeping

Shirley came to Massanetta in January 2015 after more than 11 years as Head Housekeeper at the Holiday Inn.  She was born and raised in McGaheysville, about 10 miles from Massanetta.  Shirley enjoys traveling, drawing and painting, and working outside in her garden and yard.  She is blessed with two sons, 2 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  Shirley especially enjoys meeting and welcoming the many guests at Massanetta, and she and her staff take great pride in providing a clean and comfortable lodging room for all who stay here.

Scott Kanney

    Scott began serving as Director of Maintenance in 2013. Previously he has been an equipment maintenance technician at a local print company, a biomedical equipment technician at the local hospital, and the owner of an auto repair company. He has a diploma in auto and diesel mechanics, an associates degree in computer and electronics from Blue Ridge Community College, and is completing his certification in residential and commercial wiring at Massanutten Technical Center. Scott and his family own and operate a farm. He and his wife, Lisa, have two daughters.
